Two Court Order Books, 1836-1840 and 1841-1860 were lost from the Clerk's Office (time period is not known) and two Minute Books were bound to take their place. There is a gap in years on the covers of the Court Order Books. There books are not found with the Court Order Books but in another part of the public area of the Clerk's Office. This is the first of the books, the second book has not been transcribed. The books contain only names, dates and reason for appearing in Court.

This is the story of a divorce suit filed in 1860 that culimated in the deaths of three Clement brothers, wounded several other individuals on both sides and murder charges brought against Captain Vincent Witcher and several members of his family. All information was taken from transcripts and contemporary newspaper accounts.

 This book includes stories about the soldiers and residents of Franklin County during and after the Civil War. It also includes records of the county officials during that time.

"Franklin County Birth Records, 1855-1862" $20.00 plus $4.00 S&H.
 This book was transcribed from an original journal, many pages were fragile, damaged and missing.

There are three volumes of these records, two taken from microfilm and the third from an actual journal found in the Clerk of Court's office. The microfilm records overlap and include some of the early records found in the journal. The records were re-written in the Clerk's journal at some point in time and that is where the overlap was created. These old journals no longer exist.

The microfilm box for the 1860-1897 years contains a microfilm that covers only 1860-1879. Even the film itself shows the year as 1897 but it ends in 1879

This book describes the project and includes descriptions of the cemeteries that were relocated when Appalachian Power Company prepared to create Smith Mountain Lake. Entries are indexed by persons, cemeteries and place names.

"Plat Book #1, 1792-1811, Franklin County, Virginia" $20.00 plus $4.00 S&H.

 This book includes descriptions of the plats of Franklin County as well as information on the Land Office Treasury Warrants ( also refered to as Land Grants) involved in these transactions.

These volumes were transcribed from the Marriage Records Books in the office of the Clerk of Court with one exception, one volume was taken from the microfilm from the Library of Virginia. The records in that microfilm are somewhat different from the marriage books in the Courthouse because there were several documents created for each marriage and copies were sent to Richmond and eventually microflmed there. The documents that remained in Franklin County were microfilmed there.

 The will books in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court were indexed by the first two letters of the surname and pages numbered according to instructions by the publisher of the journals. This eventually led to confusion due to the sheer volume of entries at various times. This book simplified the list and all names are listed in alphabetical order.
